Lake County Commissioners Recognize Jim Tressel on Appointment as Lieutenant Governor of Ohio

PAINESVILLE, Ohio, February 20, 2025– During today’s Lake County Board of Commissioners’ meeting, the board announced the adoption of a resolution recognizing Jim Tressel, a native of the City of Mentor in Lake County, on his appointment as Lieutenant Governor of Ohio.

The Board is especially proud of Tressel’s accomplishments as a Lake County and City of Mentor native, which exemplify the spirit of excellence and leadership that our community promotes. His remarkable tenure as the Head Football Coach at The Ohio State University from 2001 to 2010 brought unprecedented success to the program, including a National Championship in 2002 and multiple Big Ten Conference titles. Beyond his athletic achievements, Tressel instilled essential values of teamwork, discipline, academic excellence, and community engagement in his players, helping shape them into responsible and successful citizens. Notably, his teams achieved a signature upset over Michigan, a victory that showcased his ability to prepare his teams for the biggest stages and achieve historic wins.

Following his time at Ohio State, Tressel served as the President of Youngstown State University from 2014 to 2023. During this period, he implemented significant improvements in academic programs, increased student enrollment, and enhanced campus facilities, contributing greatly to the university’s growth and the economic development of the Mahoning Valley. His dedication to community service is further exemplified by his involvement with numerous charitable organizations, demonstrating a genuine commitment to improving the lives of young people throughout Ohio.
